This, frankly, is a sickness at the heart of the fanboy world. There’s nothing (too) wrong with maintaining a fondness for the things that you grew up on, but there is something borderline psychotic about needing those properties to conform to a frankly juvenile vision of ‘maturity.’ And it isn’t like the modern grim n’ gritty obsession (which has been going on for DECADES) is about deconstruction; Albrecht has nothing to say about Voltron at all, he just thinks that he could redo it in the style of Battlestar Galactica (a rare example of something that was grittied up in a way that works, because it had something to say.
